An Army Wife...
Everyone hears of the Army Wife,
Her trials, sacrifices, and devoted life.
She is strong, she is brave, and she is loving indeed,
Standing by her man in his time of need.
But what of others in a similar situation,
Who have made being an Army Wife their main occupation?
They suffer many of the same trials and many of the same fears
Without the security of future years.
Will there be peace or will there be war?
You try to be hopeful but it's hard to ignore.
The world seems to be falling apart
When to a soldier you have given your heart.
Your love runs too deep to escape from it now.
You hope to be together somewhere, somehow,
When his duty is over and your life can begin.
You wonder if it will happen but don't question when.
The many heartbreaks and times you did weep
When he made promises the Army couldn't keep.
But you have learned so much together and come so far.
Others don’t understand but you know where you already are.
His job is ever-changing and takes him far away.
You think of him always and pray every day--
For his safety, his courage, and his love for you
That he may remain steadfast, loyal, and ever true.
Nothing is sure and nothing is set in stone...
Except that he will leave again and you will be alone,

Texas National Guard Youth, Volunteers, and Family Support Services will be hosting a Texas Youth Military Holiday Party.
This is a casual, fun event where you can meet some of your military neighbors and find out what services are available in the Houston area.

Cancellation of Halloween Party 10.20.12
Due to very limited participation in RSVP's for the Halloween FRG Party, it has been cancelled.
If you have any ideas on how to get families together, or what you would like please let me know.
Planning an FRG event is not easy or cheap. I had a Keynote speaker lined up, vendor, food, prizes, cames, and items to prepare for the soldiers.
But, if no one wants to attend or get involved, I will not set up future events.

Recipe for Homemade Shower Cleaner! Works Great!
Here is a great recipe for homemade shower cleaner that works fantastic, and it is so cheap!

Recipe
for Homemade Shower Cleaner
Step #1: Pour any
amount of white vinegar into a plastic spray bottle
Step #2: Heat it
up in the microwave until very warm.
Step #3: Pour the
same amount of Dawn dish soap into the spray bottle.
Step #4: Put the
top of the spray bottle on and gently shake until they are combined.
That’s it!!
Just 2 simple
ingredients and about 5 minutes of your time and you have a very inexpensive,
homemade shower cleaner that works wonders on soap scum and smells great too!
NOTE: This cleaner is also great for removing greasy
buildup in the kitchen!

October: Commander's Update from 1LT Smith
Salaam from Afghanistan ~
Greetings friends and families back home. I hope this update finds you all well and in good health.
Our Battalion has been in country over six weeks now, and after many issues with space and maintenance of vehicles we inherited, the Company has finally set into a battle rhythm.
It is definitely cooling off. The area is quite arid and the temperatures are more reflective of desert environment. During the day it is still probably in the mid 70's, but has dipped several times into the 40's.
The 100 days of wind, is a period of 30km winds plus that was supposed to end in August end, but is just now finally subsiding. It will be nice not to hear the wind whip around the sand.
The people are very innovative here with what resources they have. AS you have seen from some of the pictures, they build compounds of mud bricks, which we see everywhere. They also have a water system where they poke holes into the ground to follow any sources of water. We have actually seen some that have fish in them, even with it looking like a desert only a mere 5 ft away.
As with most third world countries, they just throw their trash and garbage everywhere, it is sad really.
Some towns are friendly, with kids all over the place wanting free stuff from us. It is fun for awhile, but some are quite bothersome. I had one 8 year old boy grab at my watch wanting it, I had to say "Ney" which means "No" in Dari, and "Knanna Buru" which means go home.
To me the most enjoyable aspect of this deployment is the actually patrolling of the towns and seeing the people,
In closing I'd just like to thank you all again, your support, packages, letters and much more keep our spirits high and morale even higher. I can never truly tell you how much that means to all of us.
Know that you're in our thoughts and prayers at all times and we'll complete our Mission and be home soon!

Operation Military Kids... Register your kids for FREE activities today!
Operation: Military Kids
This is the U.S. Army's collaborative effort with America's communities to support children and youth impacted by deployment. Regardless of whether Families are experiencing deployment for the first time, the second time or another in a series of multiple deployments, OMK’s goal is to connect military children and youth with local resources in order to achieve a sense of community support and enhance their well-being.
Through a network of National, State and Local Partners, Operation: Military Kids provides access to youth programs and support services where military children live. OMK Partners organize special events, provide transportation to military kids to sporting events or other extracurricular activities, and participate in the Hero Pack initiative.
- Army Child, Youth & School Services programs are offered through Army Garrisons, National Guard Family State Program offices or Reserve Regional commands
- 4-H National Headquarters provides information to connect military youth to 4-H programs in their hometowns
- Find the Boys & Girls Club nearest to you and participate in wide array of program opportunities such as Keystone Clubs
- Schools can help create academic, social and emotional support networks for students
- Military Child Education Coalition provides professional development opportunities on working with military populations for school personnel and community members making them aware of the stressors that can be associated with a military deployment
- The American Legion has a variety of youth program options such as the "High School Oratorical Scholarship Program" for youth of all ages
- The National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) can assist military families with child care issues
